Top 5 Tips for Packing Shoes for a Trip

Packing shoes for a trip can be a hassle. How do you keep them clean, organized, and make sure they don’t take up too much space in your suitcase? We’ve got the answers! Here’s our best advice for packing shoes, so that you can spend less time stressing over planning and more time enjoying your trip.

#1
Prep Before Packing Clean & Dry Your Shoes

One of the most useful things you can do before packing is clean your shoes. Just make sure they are thoroughly dry before putting them in your suitcase. This keeps them and everything else in your luggage clean and hygienic throughout your trip.

#2
Secure Your Shoes Packing Materials & How to Use Them

Investing in packing materials for your shoes can be a real time saver, offering ways to both protect your shoes and keep everything you’re packing clean.

Some suitcases have specialized sections for shoe storage, making it an easy way to organize and secure your shoes. You can also buy packing cubes, which offer a portable version with the same benefits.

Likewise, there are several great packing materials that won’t break the bank. One of the most common is using shower caps to wrap around the bottom of your shoes. You can also use plastic bags or any other similar materials.

Bonus: Wrap your shoes individually to keep their shape, prevent damage, provide better hygiene, and offer more ways to organize.

#3
Pack Smarter Stuff Your Shoes

Help maintain the shape and integrity of your shoes by stuffing the inside of them. You can use newspaper, tissue paper, or other like materials.

Bonus: Stuff shoes with other items you’re packing like socks, belts, or even jewelry. This will save space and can double as secure storage for smaller or more valuable items. Be sure to wrap your smaller and more valuable items beforehand, to protect them and your shoes from damage.

#4
Suitcase Tetris How & Where to Pack Your Shoes

There are quite a few different ways to organize your shoes in a suitcase. Here are the methods we suggest:

  • For All Occasions: Separate your shoes to either side of the luggage to evenly distribute the weight. Make sure the soles are facing out to keep your items clean.
  • For Boots or Other Heavy Shoes: Place heavy shoes on the bottom of your suitcase if you cannot wear them. Make sure to place them heel to toe if they cannot be placed on the sides of the luggage. This ensures they keep their shape and take up the least amount of space.
  • For Sandals or Other Lighter Shoes: Place lighter shoes in your luggage lid compartment or any other pockets your suitcase may have. If not, tucking them to the sides of your luggage or on top works as well. This keeps them separate from the rest of your items for cleanliness and makes them easier to find.
  • For Long Trips: Layer your shoes with other packing items to keep a buffer of padding in between them. This helps keep them more protected and is especially useful if you are going on a long trip or putting your luggage in checked baggage claim.
